Public Viewing Spots
Llano, TX
In the Texas hill country off hwy 29 between Burnett and Llano, TX is the location for the first eagle nest we ever watched and photographed. After a few hours of watching these great birds on the side of the Llano river we were hooked!

The nest is approximately 120 yards off the highway to the south, and a small dirt rest area is at the location now. There is a lot of action at this nest especially in the morning. Three adults share this nest so there is often an eagle flying or perched near the nest. With the river directly behind the nest - lots of food is flown to the nest once the eggs hatch. Turtles, ducks, lots of fish among other things have been photographed being carried into the nest. Other birds of prey are often seen nearby for very short periods such as Crested Caracara and Osprey, along with other eagles on occassion.
Mornings are always the best time to view eagles as they are the most active, but with this location, mornings also provides the best light for photographs.
